Zidane: Hollande’s words bother me

As his Real Madrid team prepare to do battle with Legia in the Champions League on Tuesday, Zinedine Zidane took some time to take French president Francois Hollande to task over his criticism of Karim Benzema.

Clearly the Los Blancos coach felt that Hollande had no business in making comment on matters which don’t directly concern him.

“It’s not normal to talk about my players and it’s annoying, it bothers me,” Zidane said in his pre-match press conference.

“I have no explanation…..I don’t share his words.”

Looking ahead to the game, the Frenchman was happy with the intensity that he’d seen from his team in training and at Real Betis.

“I am satisfied with the level of their work and good things happen when we prepare correctly,” he said.

“After the game the other day a coach can only be happy, but now we have to change the mindset and not reflect on the 6-1.”

Real are clear favourites to win the tie but Zidane remains cautious.

“We play in the same competition so that means we are at the same level,” he continued.

“The game will be 50-50 and complicated from the beginning.

“For me, there is no difference between us.”
