WORST EVER Clasico run for Messi

Barcelona’s title tilt took hit a slight bump as they fell to a 2-1 home defeat to arch rivals Real Madrid for the first time in 39 matches in all competitions on Saturday.

Zinedine Zidane’s troops came from behind to claim a late victory through goals from Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo to cancel out Gerard Pique’s earlier headed opener.

The result not only knocked Barca’s home streak but also confirmed the worst run of form for star player Lionel Messi in Clasico encounters.

The Argentine magician has now failed to score in his last five meetings with Real Madrid – his poorest streak since his professional debut.

By comparison, match-winner Ronaldo has netted in four of his last five games against the Catalans in all competitions, scoring four goals.

His latest strike sees the the Portuguese forward move up to third in the all-time Clasico scorers list in all competitions on 16 goals after surpassing iconic Real attacker Raul on 15.

Alfredo di Stefano is two ahead in the standings having netted on 18 occasions in the derby, whilst Messi remains at the top of the pile with 21 goals to his name.
