West Ham United have been boosted by the news that Cheikhou Kouyate’s red card picked up against Crystal Palace on Saturday has been rescinded by the Football Association.
The midfielder was sent off at Upton Park after being shown a straight red card for a foul on Dwight Gayle leaving him facing a three-match ban.
The decision angered manager Slaven Bilic who insisted after the match that the challenge did not even deserve a booking as it was “not even a foul”.
The Hammers have now successfully appealed the decision, the second time Kouyate has had a red card rescinded in less than two months.
The decision means Kouyate is now available for selection for West Ham’s next match against Arsenal at Upton Park on Saturday.
The 26-year-old was on target the last time the two sides met, a 2-0 West Ham win on the opening day of the season, as well as in last season’s fixture at Upton Park which Arsenal won 2-1.
