Black Stars coach Avram Grant claims he and the Ghana Football Association are still doing a background check on Spain U-21 player Inaki Williams.
The Athletic Bilbao player was born in Bilbao, Biscay to a Ghana father and a Liberian mother. The Spanish player is eligible to play for the senior national teams of Spain, Ghana and Liberia having not made a senior appearance for any of those teams.
Ghana Football communications director Ibrahim Sannie Daara said last week coach Avram Grant had been in touch with the Spanish forward in a bid to make him play for the Blacks Stars.
Speaking to Metro TV, former Chelsea coach Avram Grant said of Inaki Williams:
“About Inaki Williams, I don’t know if he is Ghanaian, we are checking.
“We found out that his father is Ghanaian and his mother is from Liberia and he is Spanish. We’re finding solutions with him and the positive is that he is a good player.”
Inaki Williams has put in some great performances for Spanish La Liga club Athletic Bilbao to get some international recognition. His phenomenal volley goal against Espanyol was as brilliant as a goal could get this season.
