Kenyan athletes Joyce Zakary and Koki Manunga have tested positive for banned substances at the World Championships in Beijing, the IAAF has announced.
Zakary, 29, set a new national record of 50.71 seconds in the heats of the women’s 400m on Monday, but failed to take her spot in the semi-finals the following day.
Manunga, 21, bowed out in the heats of the women’s 400m hurdles on Sunday. Both have been handed provisional bans.
World athletics’ governing body said the pair were targeted in pre-competition tests at their team hotel on August 20 and 21.
“The IAAF Rules dictate that the IAAF is only able to make a public disclosure once this provisional suspension is in place,” continued their statement.
“The IAAF will not discuss the details of the cases as they progress through the results management process.”
