Turkish manager Can Vanli appointed technical advisor for Hearts

Relegation-threatened Accra Hearts of Oak have appointed German-Turkish manager Bahtiyar Can Vanli as technical advisor.

The Turkish coach joins the team for the remaining five matches of the campaign as the Phobians engage in a desperate battle to avoid relegation.

His appointment is meant to strengthen the technical bench after the dismissal of head coach Herbert Addo and his assistant Dauda Lutterodt.

“We can confirm Can Vanli is on the technical bench to offer assistance,” Board member Frank Nelson toldGoal.

“He is here to offer assistance and advice to the technical team on the last five matches.”

Vanli, 53, was in the stands when Kotoko defeated Hearts on Sunday and is expected to play a key role on Wednesday when they take on Liberty Professionals.

He will supervise the work of interim coach Eddie Ansah for the rest of the campaign, according to the club’s official.

His appointment has fuelled speculation he could take over the job on a permanent basis at the end of the season. However, Nelson insists Vanli came to assist the technical team across the remaining games of the season.

“He is not coming to take over anybody’s job. He is here to lend a helping hand. He will leave at the end of the season,” Nelson added.

The club is without a head coach following the departure of Addo. Vanli is currently the coach of Lebanese side Safa Club. He was also an assistant to Senol Gunes for the Turkish national team during the 2002 World Cup in Korea-Japan.
