Atletico Madrid youngster Thomas Teye Partey is set to spend some time in the treatment room after suffering an injury, the club have confirmed.
Lasting until the 59th minute in Saturday’s 3-1 humbling of Eibar in the Spanish topflight at the Estadio Vicente Calderon, Partey pulled out of Tuesday’s training as the Red and Whites brace themselves up for an away trip to Getafe on Sunday.
“Midfielder Thomas Partey was unable to complete training on Tuesday morning and retired before the session ended,” the club’s official website announced.
“After undergoing a first examination in Majadahonda’s FREMAP Clinic, the medical report of the Atletico Madrid midfielder indicates that he suffered a grade I injury of the vastusmedialismucle in the right thigh.
“He is pending further evaluation.”
Although the club was tightlipped on the expected layoff period, Goal understands that the 22-year-old could be sidelined for a minimum of 10 days.
Partey rose to prominence last month after fetching a late winner in his side’s 1-0 triumph over Levante in a substitute appearance, moving the Red and Whites atop La Liga table at the time.
Three days earlier, he assisted the first goal in a 2-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano in a Copa Del Rey fixture.
The Odumase Krobo-born has made eight league appearances so far this season.
