Thierry Henry praised Anthony Martial’s deadly finishing after his debut goal for Manchester United against Liverpool.
Martial has been widely compared to Arsenal legend Henry, and scored a sensational strike after coming off the bench to make his debut.
The world’s most expensive teenager, who could cost United up to £58m, cut inside from the left, rode a Martin Skrtel challenge and finished low into the far corner.
Henry, the scorer of many similar goals, said on Sky Sports: “I’m happy for him. They’re wondering if he spoke English – he proved he did with the ball.
“I love the finish, it’s a great finish for me. He freezes the keeper by looking up before he hits it.”
Viewers were amused and frustrated in equal measure that Henry was unable to offer a fuller assessment of Martial’s display.
The Frenchman found it hard to make himself heard as Graeme Souness and Jamie Carragher loudly debated Liverpool’s defensive failings in United’s 3-1 win at Old Trafford.
