English Premier League side Sunderland are hoping to snap up Christian Atsu in the January transfer window.
The Ghana international striker is currently on a season-long loan at Everton from Chelsea.
But the 22-year-old has only started three games for the Toffees, including just one in the Premier League, and this has understandably not gone down well at Stamford Bridge.
Now Chelsea are toying with the idea of recalling Atsu – and this would leave the way clear for Sunderland to move for him in the new year.
Sunderland are not being put off by their last experience with a Ghana international striker when, in September, 2011, Asamoah Gyan walked out on the Black Cats and joined UAE club Al Ain.
