Even after becoming a European champion for club and country, Luis Suarez believes that Cristiano Ronaldo is still second-best to Lionel Messi.
The pair will go head to head for the Ballon d’Or after a largely forgettable year for the Barcelona talisman which also saw Ronaldo inspire both Real Madrid and Portugal to glory.
“Perhaps [Ronaldo] has the advantage for the title,” Suarez told reporters. “I think Messi is the best player in the world, regardless of any others.
“He decides games and makes the difference although he did not win with his country [at the Copa America].”
Messi’s setbacks were not limited to the football pitch after he was found guilty of tax fraud by the Spanish authorities but Suarez insists that the Argentine retains the full support of his Azulgrana team mates.
“What I talk to [Messi] about is as a friend and left in private,” he added.
“He’s enjoying the holidays, wanting to start training again.
“Everyone knows how difficult it was for him after the Copa America and what happened in court but he always bounces back and we must support him.”
