We are still aiming to defend the title – Dramani

The head coach of Premier League champions Asante Kotoko, Mas-Ud Dramani says his side still has its sights on defending the league title, despite failing to record a victory in the first two matches of the new season.

The ‘Porcupine Warriors are still without a win after losing 0-1 to Aduana Stars in their opening league game in Dormaa, and drawing 2-2 with Sekondi Hasaacas at the Baba Yara Stadium on Wednesday.

Speaking to the media after the game, Dramani indicated that it is disturbing his team is yet to secure a victory in two games, noting that he is not comfortable with the situation, and that they will continue to psych the players to build their confidence, adding that they still want to retain the title they have won consecutively for the past three seasons.

‘’I think we have thirty matches in the season, and we have just done two matches. We are looking at where we do well. We are looking at areas where we fall short, and then correct things as we go. I think that we have not been comfortable with the situation. That is the game of football. We don’t look at the past, we look ahead and then you continue to work hard training, get the players psyched, let them know that we lost, but we are still a strong side. We are very positive that we are still the defending champions and we are forging ahead for the title.’’

Dramani also indicated that he is not disappointed in his players performance so far in the league, but rather the results, noting that they have done every thing possible to win the maximum points in the games they have played, adding that they are still capable of helping him defend the title successfully.

‘’My players are my men. It is a complete team and so you might be disappointed in the results, but honestly speaking I am not disappointed in my players because I will need them every time to contest for the title. They did everything that was needed in the game to have given us the three points, but unfortunately we still think that there are areas that we have to work on. We were a super side, and so if you say you are disappointed in the players, I don’t think that you show sincerity. I think that they fought hard. Everybody tried to do his very best, but maybe our best is still not good to meet our expectation. We will continue to work hard and we will continue to encourage them to let them know that we are still capable of going for the title.’’

Dramani noted that he does not expect much more from the players at the moment since it is a new team because they are yet blend well.

‘’I think we all saw the game. I think that if you were watching the game from a very analytical view, you’ll appreciate that everybody who played in the game did his very best. The positives were more than the negatives as we all saw, and you’ll attest even from my colleague that we gave them so many things to worry about, but I think that we still have room to improve. Individually somebody can be talented but playing as team is different. Because it is a new team, not all things are going to click now, and most of the time in a game whiles you’re dominating and you are not able to convert it into goals, your confidence level can go down, then you tend to forget what you are even known of doing best. I have confidence in the players, and I know that people will hail these same players. We can never add any player again. This is all that we have. You will attest to the fact that I have never said we have a complete team. That is why when somebody like Ahmed Toure came on board, I personally said I don’t expect much from him, and I will continue to say that because last two years where was he? You can talk of Sarfo Gyamfi. Where was he and what was he doing? So we are not playing with names.’’
