Stephen Appiah: Black Stars can end AFCON trophy drought in Equatorial Guinea

Ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah says the Black Stars have the credentials and pedigree to win the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

The Black Stars are without an African title since 1982 when they won it for a then record fourth time in Libya.

But they have come on two occasions in 1992 (Senegal) and 2010 (Angola) tournaments.

At next year’s finals, Ghana have been drawn in a same Group alongside title favourites Algeria, Senegal and South Africa who were all superb in the qualifiers.

Appiah believes the current crop of players have the wherewithal to win the country’s fifth AFCON trophy.

“The team has been playing together for a long time and the players know each other very well so blending won’t be a problem,” the former Juventus man said.

“This team is one of the best on the continent and our players are playing regularly in their respective Clubs so I don’t think we really have a problem when the questioning of winning it comes up.”

The 2015 Africa Cup of Nations will run from 17 January to 08 February.
