Sports Ministry denies rejecting Ghana FA’s AFCON budget because of high figures

Minister of Youth and Sports Mahama Ayariga has debunked reports that the Ghana Football Association’s budget for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations was rejected because of huge figures.

The Ghana FA presented the budget on Tuesday but was told to revise the figures for the 17 January to 08 February tournament.

“The Ministry vets every budget brought to it by the GFA and satisfy’s itself that all the activities in there are those that should be undertaken and supported by the Ministry and also funded with public funds before approving it,” Ayariga told the Ghanaian Times.

It is been rumoured the Ghana FA submitted a budget of US$ 9 million.

In the past, the football association has had their budgets for tournament severely scrutinized by the media with the suspicion that figures are inflated to line the pockets of officials.

Ghana have been handed tough opponents with Senegal, Algeria and South Africa in Group C.
