Head coach for the Bafana Bafana, Shakes Mashaba, has announced that his side will face the Black Stars of Ghana in an international friendly.
According to the South Africa’s FA website, the match is scheduled to kickoff on Tuesday, 11 October, 2016 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. And that is three days after they have played Burkina Faso in their opening match of the FIFA World Cup Russia 2018 Qualifiers.
Several new players have been introduced to the Bafana Bafana squad, therefore Mashaba is hoping that the match will help the players to adapt to his system while also serving as a preparation for the other upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Mashaba believes that a win is what the team needs to set the tone for the rest of the qualifiers.
” We must also ensure that we win our home games as anything less will not be enough to get us to Russia. We know we are carrying the hopes of the entire nation as we embark on these qualifiers, which go hand in hand with pressure, but then again it is part of the territory. But we are feeling very positive about the mission ahead. We have tweaked the team a bit to give it some freshness and we are confident we will do well, ” Mashaba said.
“Kickoff is at 19h00 and tickets are already on sale at R80 all round. They can be purchased at Computicket, Shoprite and Checkers,” South Africa’s FA website stated.
The Black Stars of Ghana will play Uganda in their opening match of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers four days before the friendly against South African. Ghana then plays Egypt in their second qualifier game away from home on November 7, 2016.
The rest of the qualifiers are next year, hosting Congo on 28 August 2017, before playing two away games against Congo and Uganda on 2 September and 2 October 2017 respectively. The final qualifying match is at home against the Pharaohs of Egypt on 6 November 2017.
