Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood says there would now be “opportunities for Jordan Ayew to play” following his impressive performance in their Capital One Cup win over Birmingham City on Tuesday.
The forward came on in the 46th minutes for Gabriel Agbonlahor and produced an impressive display as a solitary Rudy Gestede 62nd minute strike propelled the Claret and Blue Army to the fourth round.
“Look at Jordan Ayew the other night [against Birmingham]. He’s another player who’s introducing himself on to the scene,” Sherwood told reporters ahead of their Premier League clash with Liverpool on Saturday.
“Previous to that, we hadn’t seen too much of him – and we’re hoping that will give him the confidence to grow.
“A performance like that can help people gain momentum and show their worth to this great football club.
“They [new signings] come here because they are good players. Some hit the ground running. Some don’t. It takes longer for others.”
Ayew has not started for Villa in four games since making the starting XI in their League Cup victory over Notts County on August 25.
“It was a fantastic platform for him – in a derby game. It was great for the fans to see him,” Sherwood added.
“We’ve seen a lot of that in training. It’s good that he’s arrived on the scene and there will be opportunities for him to play now.”
Ayew joined the Birmingham-based outfit in July on a five-year contract after scoring 12 times for Lorient in the French Ligue 1 in the 2014-15 campaign.
