Senegal yesterday beat Zimbabwe 2-0 to seal quarter final qualification for the first time in the Competition since 2006.the teranga lions dominated the majority part of the game,as Sadio Mane converted Keita Baldi,s cross at the far post with a fine tap in just 10minutes into the game.that was never enough for the teranga lions as they came knocking to increase the tally, but that didn’t take long when the pacy Baldi powered a fantastic free kick into the net 4minutes after Mane,s goal to increase their tally to 2.
The West Africans were as far the better side as they dominated in most part of the game.the Senegal attack consisting of Mane,Balde and Biram caused soo much problems for the warriors as they were both denied the target many times by goalkeeper Nkuruva.
It was no difference in the second half as the Senegalese continued their dominance but still couldn’t find that 3rd goal.Mane came very close again in the 49th minute when he blazed the ball over the bar.Zimbabwe,s best chance came in the 71st minute when Nyasha Mushekwi unleashed a shot which was saved by Senegal goalie Abdoulaye Diallo. that wasn’t the end as goalkeeper Nkuruva also denied Balde and substitute Moussa Sow in the final minute with Referee Redouane Jiyed blowing his whistle for end of proceedings. Now Senegal tops Group B with 6points and as well the first team to qualify to the quarter final of the competition.
The lions will then play Algeria in their final group game as Zimbabwe faces Tunisia in 4 days time
