It has been 20 years since Ronaldo Nazario produced his stunning individual effort against Compostela for Barcelona, although the Brazilian now wishes he had been scoring that memorable goal for Real Madrid.
Now an ambassador for Los Blancos, the 40-year-old spent one season at the Camp Nou and scored a brace in a 5-1 win over Compostela on October 12, 1996, including that goal in which he shrugged off defender after defender en route to the penalty area.
“To score a goal like that you need to have peripheral vision and [the defenders] hardly give you time to think,” the retired player told Movistar Plus’ programme ‘Minuto #0’.
“It was a nice goal, but I’d preferred to have scored it with Real Madrid, to be honest.”
In his interview, Ronaldo also spoke of how Roberto Carlos is his best friend, of the way in which Zinedine Zidane impressed him as a player and of the ability Jose Mourinho showed as an assistant coach at Barcelona.
