Cristiano Ronaldo and Alvaro Arbeloa have hit back at Gerard Pique after the Barcelonadefender mocked Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey problems on Twitter.
Madrid have been kicked out of this season’s Copa del Rey after fielding Denis Cheryshev in the 3-1 win over Cadiz last week. The 24-year-old was supposed to be serving a suspension which he was given during his loan spell at Villarreal, although Madrid have confirmed they will appeal their expulsion.
But Arbeloa reacted angrily to Pique’s jibe on social media when asked about the situation after Madrid’s 8-0 win over Malmo on Tuesday evening.
“Pique seems obsessed with us,” said the defender.
“I’ll see him in a comedy club talking about Madrid. The last 10 years for Barca don’t equal Madrid’s history.”
Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored four against Malmo to set a new record of 10 goals in the Champions League group stage, was also dismissive of Pique’s actions.
“It’s not worth talking about, I don’t want to give free publicity,” said the forward.
“I don’t speak about these things because it’s a waste of time.”
