Richard Commey arrives home after IBF title loss

Ghana’s Richard Commey has safely arrived in Ghana following his inability to win the vacant IBF lightweight belt after last Friday’s split decision loss to Toledo, Ohio native Robert Easter Jr.

Commey was given a heroes’ welcome when he arrived in Accra on Monday morning at the Kotoka International Airport, as supporters close to 300 besieged the arrival hall of the Airport.

“I thank the fans for coming, I thank them for believing in me. They saw the fight and they I believed I won, I also knew I have won but fighting in someone’s land. I knew they will rob me,” Commey told the media.

“I will not be frustrated with this loss, I have a mission that is to be a world champion. I have to be a world champion before I retire and I will surely achieve that because it is something I have it at the back of my mind when I decided to become a boxer.”

He concluded: “Now I will take some rest and hopefully in December I will return to the ring. Ghanaians will see a different Richard Commey because I’m not stopping till I achieve my target.”

Commey arrived in the company of his trainer Carl Lokko and manager Michael Amoo-Bediako, the Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuije was also at the airport to welcome him.
