Journalist Robert Beasley is set to release a book on Jose Mourinho’s personality and recent career later in September, and it has detailed how Florentino Perez asked the coach to return to Real Madrid and sort out the troublemakers.
Mourinho left the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in 2013 but has remained in the good books of those in power in the Spanish capital.
It is claimed that following the departure of Carlo Ancelotti in 2015, the Portuguese coach confirmed he was approached by Los Blancos’ president to return to the club prior to Rafa Benitez being appointed.
“The president loves me and wanted me to go back and clean the club, sort out people like Pepe, Casillas, Ramos and Marcelo, but I told him it was too late,” Mourinho explained.
However, Real Madrid have on Saturday morning, completely denied the information published in the Daily Mail suggesting it is “completely false.”
Another issue laid bare by the current Manchester United boss was the lack of team spirit during his spell in Madrid, made clear by an incident involving players not turning up to Michael Essien’s birthday party.
After it became known that the Special One wouldn’t return, the race for the job narrowed down to being between Benitez and Zinedine Zidane, however Mourinho was certain neither would be appointed.
“The president thinks of Zidane by name and status only and he didn’t do s**t with Castilla.
“Klopp is the only one who can lead. Rafa? No way!”
