REPORT: UEFA Champions League Last-16 (Tuesday, 16 Feb 2016)

By Prince Dulzy

In the first leg of the Champions League last-16, Chelsea were defeated 2-1 by Paris Saint-Germain at Parc des Princes.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic opened the scoring for the hosts through a deflected free-kick before John Obi Mikel levelled right on half-time.

Laurent Blanc’s side piled on the pressure and were rewarded late on when the Uruguay international, Edinson Cavani, replaced his South American compatriot, Lucas Moura in the 74th minute and scored a crucial goal minutes after, firing beneath Thibaut Courtois to hand PSG a slender advantage ahead of the second leg at Stamford Bridge on March 9.

Elsewhere, a stoppage-time header from Jonas fired Benfica to a 1-0 win over Zenit in the first leg of their Champions league last-16 tie on Tuesday.

The Portuguese champions suffered a bitterly disappointing defeat to Porto last Friday and looked set to suffer further frustration against their opponents coming into the match following the Russian Premier League’s extended mid-season break.

However, a second yellow card collected by Domenico Criscito for a foul on Andre Almeida paved the way for Zenit’s downfall as the home side capitalised in the dying moments of the game.
