Relegation Zone: Hearts of Oak on a complicated mission in Tarkwa

Hearts of Oak battle to beat the relegation drop continues as they will play as guest to Medeama on match day 28 of the First Capital Plus Bank Premier League at the T&A Park in Tarkwa on Sunday [16th August, 2015].

The first round game ended 2-2 at the Essipong sports stadium due to an home match ban on the Phobians, the former premier league champions were close in winning the game 2-1 but they got pegged back Medeama with a late strike through Hans Kwoffie.

The Phobians have had a steady rise as they have won two successive games, beating Liberty 1-0 and Bechem Utd by the same score line which moved them from the 15th position to the 11th position on the league log as they keep their survival hope alive.

Since the arrival of Vanli Can, the Turkish trainer has been providing technical advice to the stop gap coach Eddie Ansah which has yielded positive results in the Phobians recent games and they will battle Medeama with the same mental fortitude with the hope of winning the game.

Medeama in the other hand will like to return into winning ways after they lost 2-1 in their match day 27 to league league leaders AshGold and they are also not secured on the league log, sitting at the 9th position with 37 points leading the 14th placed team [Heart of Lions] with 3 points and a loss for Tom Strand’s side will push them to the drop zone.

It will not only be the fight for the 3 points at Tarkwa, the Phobians will be seeking for a revenge because in the ongoing season, the Accra giants have played Medeama three times – they lost 2-0 in the MTN FA Cup semi final, drew 2-2 in the league and a golless drawn game in the Elite Cup. Hearts of Oak have never won a game against Medeama at Tarkwa since the club name was changed from Kessben.

Hearts of Oak last league game against Medeama at the T&A Park in Tarkwa which was last season in the second round fixture, the Phobians succumbed to a 2-1 defeat but Emmanuel Hayford believes on Sunday the Phobains will end their winless streak at Tarkwa.

“We are highly motivated for the game because of our recent wins and Medeama game will be a difficult one because Tarkwa has been a fortress ground for us but this time it will be a different story, we are going into the game with a winning mentality and I mean we are going for the 3 points which at  long run it will better our position on the log sheet,” Hayford told Allsports.com.gh.

Medeama this season in the ongoing First Capital Plus Bank Premier league are yet to lose a game at home and their shot stopper, Muntari Tagoe is hopeful of a win against the Phobians in order to maintain their unbeaten home run.

“It will be a crucial game against Hearts of Oak, but we will go into the game with one aim, that is to maintain our season unbeaten home run. We know Hearts of Oak will definitely attack us from all angles but we have the antidote to beat them and I want to promise Medeama fans that we will pick the three maximum points on the day.
