AFCON: It’s Redemption Time For Big Boys

In Two weeks time 16 Nations will parade in Equatorial Guinea to compete for Africa’s greatest honour in football which is the Afcon 2015. As usual names like the Elephants of Cote d’ivoire, the Black Stars of Ghana, the indomitable Lions of Cameroon, the Teranga lions of Senegal, the Eagles of Mali and the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia; will surely be the favourites and Big boys of the Game with the super Eagles the only Big Name who couldn’t make it to the final 16.

It is for a fact that these Big Guns have always failed in the past couple of years to annex the trophy with complacency, lack of commitment and patriotism playing a major part. For instance it would have  been no surprise if the elephants  were boasting of three Afcon trophies in their old trophy casket even with the likes of world class players  like Yaya Toure ,Didier Drogba, Cheike Tiote, Kalou  and the inform Wilfred Bony. Names that requires standing ovations in African football.

Not forgetting the Black stars of Ghana who haven’t won the trophy since the last time in Libya 1982. Since then it’s been the same story, always favourites but turns out disappointing even with the Likes of Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, Asamoah Gyan and Kwadwo Asamoah. I quite also remember a Senegal team with a certain Demba Ba and a certain Papisse Cisse who were no Where to be found in the last 2013 Afcon just like Cameroon who could boast of the likes of Samuel Eto and Alex Song .The Roll call can’t be complete without the Seydou Keita’s and the Mammadou Sissoko’s from Mali. All these big names and Nations mentioned clearly gives us indications that the Caesars have been Harmless and the mice will surely play when the Cats are away.

I believe strongly that the time has come because the Era of most of these names mentioned above will soon come to an end…As these players have surely passed their peaks and should be readying for retirements in 2years time meaning most might not be present in the next nation’s cup. This could be their Redemption time, the time to prove that the sharks will no more swallow the whale. This Afcon could be the time to show to Africa and the world in a whole that they are indeed the Big Boys and can prove in the Big Games .Surely they have got their belts tightened for the Battle of Glory as most of them have sent a statement of intends to the rabbits by naming their final squads earlier on time. This Rings a bell and tells African football fans that the Boys are now ready to Deliver and Take Back what Belongs to them.
