In fact, there should be no wrangling argument why Real Madrid should not be dominating the FifPro XI, otherwise known as FIFA’s ‘The Best’ Gala XI.
Real Madrid has been superior than any other team in Europe throughout 2016, going 39 games undefeated since April 2016 when Zinedine Zidane’s side lost 2-0 to Wolfsburg.
So it is really not out of place, or something to be surprised about for five of Real Madrid’s players to included in the FIFA’s ‘The Best’ Gala XI.
Among these five players is Cristiano Ronaldo, a clear favourite to bag the accolade for the best player of the year, joining his teammates, Sergio Ramos, Luka Modric, Marcelo and Toni Kross.
Only the Brazilian was missing from UEFA’s own Team of the Year, their defence made up of Ramos, Boateng, Pique and Bonucci.
Regarding the prize for Best Coach, Leicester’s Claudio Ranieri remains the favourite ahead of Zinedine Zidane who also guided Real Madrid to Champions League glory.
