Coaching legend Carlo Ancelotti has heaped praise upon Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri, who has led the Foxes to top spot in the Premier League.
Widely tipped for relegation at the outset of the season, with scorn poured on their appointment of the former Monaco and Chelsea boss, Leicester have defied their critics to open up a two-point advantage ahead of Arsenal and Tottenham at the summit of the table.
Champions League football now looks a probability next term for the Foxes and the soon-to-be Bayern Munich boss is delighted for his compatriot.
“I am happy for Claudio. He deserves this,” Ancelotti told Goal. “He has a lot of experience.
“They’ve built a special energy this year. They’re playing as a team.
“It’s good for football to sometimes have a team that’s not always at the top to win the league. It is a good image – and not only for English football.”
Leicester had enjoyed a five-point buffer to their closest rivals before a late Danny Welbeck goal on Sunday denied them a 1-1 draw with Arsenal. Nevertheless, they will have a week to regroup as they are not in action until February 27 after being eliminated from the FA Cup.
