Ghanaian defender says he feels proud to wear former Germany international Gerald Asamoah’s number 14 shirt for Schalke.
Baba Rahman will wear the iconic No. 14 for Schalke 04 next season after joining the the German club from Chelsea this season on loan.
The Ghana international has already met up with his new team on their pre-season tour in Austria.
Rahman told Schalke’s official website that he feels proud to be handed the No.14 worn by club legend and compatriot Gerald Asamoah.
“I know Asa very well. He comes from Ghana like me and we played together in Fürth. The fact that I will be wearing his number 14 shirt for Schalke makes me that little bit prouder.”
Gerald Asamoah played for the Royal Blues for eleven seasons from 1999 to 2010, scoring 44 goals in 279 appearances. He is recognised as one of the club’s greatest players.
Baba Rahman further stated his excitement on joining to club and look forward to work with the team.
“But i’m very happy to be here, to work with the team. I know the number has a big meaning at this club because of Gerald but it’s also the reason I chose this number.”
