Agnieszka Radwanska continued to cruise through the early rounds of the Tianjin Open, dropping just two games as she booked a quarter-final place on Thursday.
The highest seed in the draw after Flavia Pennetta’s shock early exit, world number six Radwanska followed up a 6-1 6-0 victory over Olga Savchuk with a 6-1 6-1 thrashing of Wang Qiang.
However, the Pole was forced to save five break points in her second-round contest, as Wang created opportunities only to come up short when it mattered most.
Radwanska will be the strong favourite to record another victory when she faces Elizaveta Kulichkova in the last eight.
Kulichkova was a 6-2 7-5 winner over fellow Russian Evgeniya Rodina on Thursday, in another match that saw the defeated player fail to take advantage of multiple break points.
Lyudmyla Kichenok was unable to build on her victory over Pennetta, the Ukrainian beaten in three sets by Duan Ying-Ying, 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 6-4.
Thursday’s other match saw Danka Kovinic beat sixth seed Teliana Pereira 6-2 5-7 6-1 to set up a meeting with Duan.
