PREVIEW: UCL Quarter-Finals First Leg – PSG vs Manchester City

Paris Saint Germain host English heavy weights Manchester City in the first leg of champions League quarter final tie.

This will be the fourth successive quarter final appearance for PSG, but perished in the same stage of the competitions in the last three seasons. They lost to Barcelona in 2013 and 2014 and to Chelsea in 2014.

Manchester City are making their first ever quarter final appearance in their history and the best they ever achieved so far was a round of sixteen appearance in the previous two season. On both occasions they were eliminated by a mighty Barcelona.

Form Comparison

PSG eliminated defending Premier League champions Chelsea in the knockout round of 16 by winning both legs by the same 2-1 score-line. PSG have won their last four matches in this season’s Champions League and scored at least 2 goals in each of them. Their overall record in Champions League this season reads 6 wins, 1 draw and defeat, with the 2 matches they failed to win coming against Real Madrid.

The French League is done and dusted for PSG as they were crowned Champions of the 2015/16 season after the 9–0 thrashing of Troyes on 13th March 2016. Their form in the league is of little importance as Blanc tinkers with his squad on most occasions.

Manchester City saw off a stubborn Dynamo Kiev in the round of 16, by winning the away leg 3-1 and drawing the home fixture 0-0. They have won 5, drawn 1 and lost 2 of their Champions League fixtures this season, with the 2 defeats coming against Juventus in the group stage.

The Citizen’s domestic form is highly unpredictable and could be considered particularly poor away from home. However they have done well in Champions League after winning 3 out of their 4 matches this season. They are coming on the back of a 4-0 away win away at Bournemouth in the Premier League in the weekend, but this could give them a morale boost after losing in 4 of their last 6 league matches.
