Paris Saint-Germain’s unbeaten run over at 36 games

Paris Saint-Germain’s record 36-match undefeated Ligue 1 run was ended by Lyon on Sunday evening.

Laurent Blanc’s men were not at their best as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at Parc OL, where the home side raced into the lead through Maxwel Cornet before Sergi Darder added a superb second. Although Lucas Moura pulled one back, PSG could not complete the recovery.

It was a loss that marked their first reverse in Le Championnat since losing 3-2 against Bordeaux on March 15, 2015 – allowing them to build a run that surpassed Nantes’ previous record of 34 top-flight matches undefeated.

As a result, they can no longer win the title next weekend, as would have been possible if they had won this clash, yet they remain 23 points clear of second placed Monaco.

Meanwhile, it was only the second defeat that the Parc des Princes outfit have suffered this season, with the other a 1-0 reverse away to Real Madrid in the Champions League group stage.

Perhaps most remarkably, though, it prevented PSG reaching the mark of 50 matches unbeaten domestically – this run has instead stopped at 46.

Blanc’s side return to action on Wednesday evening, when they meet Saint-Etienne in the Coupe de France, with a second successive domestic treble still very much on the cards.
