Colombia international Juan Fernando Quintero has joined Rennes on loan from Porto.
The 22-year-old playmaker joins for the duration of the 2015-16 having failed to hold on to a first-team spot at the Portuguese side last term.
And Rennes coach Philippe Montanier was delighted to welcome the attacking midfielder to the club on the final day of the French transfer window.
“Quintero is a versatile and technical playmaker,” Montanier told the club’s official website. “He is only 22 but he made some beautiful appearances at Porto. He has good potential.”
Quintero himself is expecting a bright season with a club he believes match his ambitions.
“The club have given me confidence, I am very happy to come and play here. Rennes can have a very good season,” he said.
“The expectation is great and the club are ambitious. I will do everything necessary to adapt as quickly as possible to the team.
“Ligue 1 is a very competitive league and it’s very physical. The club aims to reach the top of the table. I know there are a lot of expectations.
“I consider myself a No.10, a playmaker who moves forward who likes to put his team-mates in the best positions.”
Rennes are currently third in Ligue 1 after four matches behind only Paris Saint-Germain and Reims.
