The promising goalkeeper will continue his career at the Eredivisie champions after signing a contract until 2018
Ajax have confirmed the capture of Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana from Barcelona with immediate effect.
The 18-year-old had already agreed to join the Eredivisie side at the end of the season, but a deal has now been struck to allow the youngster to immediately make the switch from Camp Nou to the Amsterdam Arena.
Barca had previously hit out at Ajax for their handling of the initial deal for Onana, with since deposed director of football Andoni Zubizarreta slamming the Dutch club for “disrespectful” behaviour.
Despite that strain in relations, the transfer has now been finalised, with Onana quick to express his delight with his three-and-a-half year deal.
“I am very glad I have made the move to Ajax,” Onana told his new club’s official website.
“There were quite a few clubs interested but I honestly did not have to think about it.
“When Ajax showed interest it was immediately clear to me that I wanted to go to this club.
Ajax’s director of football, Marc Overmars added: “Andre is a very talented goalkeeper and in the future he has to fight for to replace current No.1 Jasper Cillessen.
“He can compete with the talented keepers we already have. Because of some injuries it’s good that he could the switch immediately.”
Onana leaves Barca without making an appearance for the senior side.
