South African Premier Soccer League club Maritzburg United have officially announced the departure of Ghana defender John Paintsil from the club.
The 34-year-old former West Ham and Leicester City full-back told reporters last week he would be parting ways with Maritzburg.
New coach Ernst Middendorp is currently carrying out reforms at the outfit and has released the names of seven players who have been deemed surplus to requirement.
“The club would like to thank all the players that have parted ways with us, for the time spent at the club and the contribution they have made, especially John, Ashley and Ryan who have spent much more time with the club and contributed immensely to the club’s campaign in the Absa Premiership,” Maritzburg said in a statement.
Paintsil was into his second season at the club, after earning 27 league appearances last campaign.
