Galatasaray have secured the signing of Manchester City defender Jason Denayer on a season-long loan deal.
The 20-year-old centre-back spent last season on loan at Celtic and won the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award after forming a successful partnership alongside Virgil van Dijk as Ronny Deila’s men won the Scottish Premiership.
The Belgium international was rewarded by City with a new five-year contract this summer and he went on to spend the full pre-season with Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
But with captain Vincent Kompany, Eliaquim Mangala, Martin Demichelis and new signing Nicolas Otamendi all competing for places in the team, Denayer was yet to receive any playing time this season.
As a result, the stopper attracted interest from a number of European clubs and has moved to the Turkish champions for the duration of the 2015-16 campaign, meaning he will experience Champions League football for the first time. “We wish Jason all the best for his spell with Galatasaray,” said the Premier League side in their statement confirming the move. Denayer is yet to make a first-team appearance for City.
