Ghana FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi pulled off a shock on Monday when he claimed that the Ghanaian domestic league boasts of a better standard than South Africa’s Premier Soccer League.
The Ghanaian topflight has been chastised for lacking funds due to poor sponsorship, quality players and adequate coverage.
“The fact that the South Africa Premier League is the most resourced does not mean that it is the best in terms of quality football,” Nyantakyi said at seminar.
“When it comes to quality of football, Ghana ranks amongst the best in Africa and yet we’re one of the poorest in terms of resources.
“This may be linked even to the size of our economy but are there ways that we can go around these challenges and make our league that attractive so we can raise money and make our league very competitive,” he said.
The Ghana Premier League 2015 /16 season, long due for kickoff, is yet to be scheduled due to legal issues involving a number of clubs.
The campaign is likely to run without sponsorship, after Capital One abruptly terminated their deal with Ghana FA last month.
