Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi has called on the nation’s unflinching support in propelling Medeama’s Caf Confederations Cup ambitions.
Ghana’s sole campaigners in Africa following Ashanti Gold’s elimination from the Caf Champions League, the Yellow and Mauves will host Libyan side Al-Ittihad Tripoli in the first round second leg encounter of the competition at the Sekondi-Essipong Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The first fixture ended in a 1-0 win in favour of the North Africans.
“We all need to support them [Medeama] so they can win their game,” Nyantakyi toldStarrFM.
“Medeama are currently Ghana’s sole rep in Africa and that I am urging them to excel in the competition.
“I hope they defeat their counterparts come Sunday to advance to the next round of the competition.”
In a related development, president of the Tarkwa-based side Moses Armah has also urged supporters to rally behind the team.
“I am calling on the supporters to come in their numbers and support the team,” Armah toldHappy FM.
“The team is made up of young players so we need the supporters to rally behind them.
“The game is a must-win for us so we must do our best to win.”
Medeama qualified for the competition after winning the 2015 Ghana FA Cup.
