The sour relationship between the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) seems to be far from being buried as Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpuye insist he will not heed to the demands of the FA.
Mr. Nii Lantey said Ghana cannot continue to be paying wining bonuses to Black Stars players and the management team.
“The difficulty that I’ve had is how to sustain, for example, issue of winning bonuses. It is just not sustainable as a country; it doesn’t make sense — bonuses to players, bonuses to officials,” he said in an interview with Tv3 Network.
According to him, his argument stems from the fact that the management members receive per diem, given tickets to all matches, as well as hotel accommodation “all at the expense of the State.”
In a separate interview with Joy FM, the MP for Odododiodio Constituency said he is focused on his target at the Sports Ministry and the Ministry’s target football and that is not “negotiable”.
“I am focused in my mind and convinced about what I want to achieve for the Ministry and what I want the ministry to achieve for Ghana Football and that that is not negotiable.
“I will make sure that we achieve what we are supposed to achieve. That we build structures and ensure accountability and fairness as well as the judicious use of resources in football,” he stated.
