New Edubiase and Hearts of Oak draw at Len Clay Stadium

Accra Hearts of Oak were stunned by New Edubiase United on match day 24 of the Ghana Premier League played at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium on Saturday.

The Phobians were hoping to annex all three points to boost their revival in the current campaign. Coach Eddy Ansah made two changes to the starting line up that won against Heart of Lions but that could not change the fortunes of the Accra-based side.

Edubiase piled pressure on Hearts in the early stages of the game with strikers Bernard Ofori and James Boadu making numerous incursions into the vital area of the Phobians.

Edubiase’s persistence paid off in the 15th minute when Nuhu Fuseini came in with a low shot on the edge of Hearts’ box to register the home side’s first goal.

Hearts injected some urgency into their play and drew level  in the 20th minute after midfielder  Saban Laryea’s drive from 40 yards out was punched back into play by Edubiase goalkeeper Bernard Mensah, with Kenneth Okoro pouncing on the loose ball and tapping in from close range to make it 1-1.

Both sides played a compact game especially in midfield, with Edubiase dropping deep to take the lead.

In the second half, coach Ansah substituted Thomas Abbey and brought in Richard Yamaoh to stabilize the phobians’ midfield but Edubiase still looked the hungrier side as they dominated play with Latif Anabila, Fuseini and Malik Tahiru dictating play.

Hearts’ back half marshalled by skipper Robin Gnagne suffered incursions from the opposing side, with Bismark Idan, who came in for Felix Afriyie, tormenting from the flanks.

However, Hearts lifted up their game with Emmanuel Hayford and Foovi Aguidi making good attempts, but goalkeeper Mensah singlehandedly thwarted their efforts.

Latif Anabila compounded issues for the phobians with a stunner in the 72nd minute which blew past Hearts goalkeeper Seidu Mutawakilu.

Emmanuel Hayofrd fluffed a nice chance to pull level for Hearts in the 87th minute but his close range effort failed find the target.

Hearts are now 12th on the league log with six games to end the season while Edubiase moves to the 8thspot and become the first side to beat Hearts of Oak back to back this season.
