Former Ghana defender Nana Asare has been slapped with a one-match suspension by the Belgian Pro League board for picking a straight red card while playing for his side AA Gent against KV Oostende.
The 29-year-old former Utrecht and Mechelen player was expulsed following a rough tackle on South African midfielder Andile Jali in the 73rd minute of the game played on Sunday.
In his report, the referee mentioned that the Ghanaian denied his opponent the opportunity to score in an awful manner.
Asare will also pay a fine of €400, according to the Belgian Football Association (KBVB) and will miss their top clash with Lokeren at the Ghelamco Arena on Friday.
Asare made five appearances for the Black Stars between 2007 and 2012 scoring five goals.
