Messi A Step From Being The Greatest Player

I believe our soccer generation must be lucky to have him. Very talented and very great. The former Newels old boys player Lionel Messi  is undoubtedly one of the greatest footballers to live on this planet, Many might think the words being used to describe him might be overhyping, but it’s a fact one can never let go. literally and controversially  I could describe him as the second greatest footballer on the planet earth after the very known Brazilian legend Edson Arantes do Nascimento popularly known as the (world Pele) who was voted world player of the century in 1999 and athlete of the century that same year and the only football player to win three FIFA World Cups (1958, 1962, and 1970) the only player to ever do so. So it’s a fact that the world Pele is the greatest and just not comparable.

But after this great man there comes a certain Lionel Messi who can be described as the second greatest footballer in world football. He has proven that he is worth to be named as such. The only player to have won the FIFA BALLON D’OR four times. An extraordinary and phenomenal achievement to have as if that ended there  he has beaten Raul Gonzalez to  be the all time Top scorer in the  Champions League and in the Spanish La Liga, but his only deficiency is the world cup which he has never been able to lift despite coming close this summer and this exactly why he can’t be the greatest  of all time .There’s been  lots of comparisons of him to  Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid another Great talent to have. Some soccer fans are of the view that Ronaldo is better than  the fc Barcelona forward, a Competition which is  very close to call.

It’s very obvious that Cristiano Ronaldo his fiercest rival is unstoppable, the Portuguese is the all-time top scorer for Portugal with 52 goals, scored most goals in a UEFA Champions League/European Cup season – 17 goals in 2013–14 and with most goals scored in the UEFA European Championship, including qualifying 23 goals.

Ronaldo remains the only player to have scored 23 hat-tricks in Spain, won the Ballon d’Or on 2 occasions and the hot favourite to win it again come January. A phenomenal record to have as player .This heats up the race between them. Both players have scored in two UEFA champions’ league finals and have broken the 50 goal barrier in a single season. Some pundits analyse Ronaldo as an arrogant character whiles Messi as the shy and humble one. Could this be part of the reasons why Messi surpasses him as the greatest after Pele? I believe there is more to that, because ones character can’t just be attributed to his greatness but what he has done and achieved for himself. The argentine being at the world cup finals is again one achievement he has made which Ronaldo never has and might never even achieve looking at the present Portuguese team…

Looking at these statistics ,it’s clear the Argentine is one step from being the second greatest  player on earth all he needs is to lift the holy Grail (world cup) as a captain and  it’s a finished business.
