Barcelona have revealed Lionel Messi missed training on Thursday for unspecified “personal reasons”.
Messi played the full 90 minutes of his side’s Champions League draw with Bayer Leverkusen in Germany on Wednesday night, but appeared to be troubled by a hamstring injury towards the end of the game as he clutched the back of his leg.
Barca boss Luis Enrique opted not to bring him off, meaning the 28-year-old has now played back-to-back games in the space of four days having come through Saturday’s draw with Valencia.
However, the Catalans haven’t confirmed the exact reason behind his absence from their practice session, which comes ahead of their trip to Japan next week.
A statement on the club’s official Twitter account said: “Messi did not train, with permission from the coach, due to personal reasons.”
Messi had previously missed two months of action after tearing the internal collateral ligament of his left knee during the victory over Las Palmas on September 28.
