Ghana defender Jonathan Mensah has expressed his delight at AshantiGold’s league winning feat.
The Miners won the Ghana Premier League title on Sunday after beating WAFA 1-0 in Obuasi through an Emmanuel Osei spot kick.
Bashir Hayford’s boys have a six point advantage going into the final round of matches this weekend.
This happens to be their first premier league title in 19 years and their fourth overall. It is also the second premier league title for coach Bashir Hayford, who first won it with Asante Kotoko in 2008.
Mensah, who is a product of the AshGold Academy, resorted to social media on Monday to congratulate his former side.
He tweeted: “Congratulations to my former club on winning their first league title in 19 years. Aboakesie!!”
By virtue of this feat, AshGold will represent Ghana in Africa’s elite club competition- Caf Champions League next season.
The Miners will play as guests to relegation-threatened Great Olympics at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The Obuasi lads have had a good domestic campaign after reaching the semi-finals of the MTN FA Cup.
A coronation match will be organised by the Premier League Board later to officially crown AshGold as champions of the league.
The 2014/2015 league suffered a three-month delay due to some legal issues.
