Ghana defender Jonathan Mensah is looking forward to a new adventure in the Russian topflight after completing a move to Anzhi Makhachkala.
The Accra-born joined the Orly from French outfit Evian TG on a two-and-half-year deal last week, having spent the past five years in France.
The move came as a surprise to many following earlier links to Scottish side Celtic as well as English Premier League club Swansea.
“I am very happy for their [Anzhi] choice and with them now, I will play my best,” Mensah toldStarrFM.
“This is a new challenge – a bigger one for me – from the previous league I was playing.
“This league is a competitive one after speaking with colleagues who play in the Russian league.
“Anzhi really showed massive interest and I therefore decided to join them.”
Mensah joined Evian from Italian side Udinese in 2011 following a loan spell with La Liga outfit Granada. He has also previously played for South African side Free State Stars and local club Ashanti Gold.
A member of Ghana’s gold-winning squad at the 2009 Fifa Under-20 World Cup in Egypt, the centre-back has gone on to represent the Black Stars at the 2010 and 2014 Fifa World Cup tournaments in South Africa and Brazil respectively.
