Medeama sign Hasaacas defender Amos Korankye

Sensational right back for Sekondi Hasaacas, Amos Korankye had his wishes granted on Wednesday afternoon as Hasaacas agreed to allow their influential defender to join regional rivals Medeama SC.

Korankye signed a two year contract with Medeama on transfer deadline day in a move that delights the founder and bankroller of the club, Moses Armah, who is an ardent fan of the player.

Medeama beat off competition for the signature of Korankye from Hearts of Oak who showed keen interest in the right back as well.  Hasaacas had rejected offers from Medeama and openly announced their unwilling to negotiate with the Tarkwa based side when they requested for Korankye, during the pre season, including his teammates striker Samuel Afful and captain Daniel Egyin.

One of the stumbling blocks at the time was an outstanding GHC 4,000 of the GHC 10,000 transfer fee Medeama owed Hasaacas for the transfer of defender Nana Egyir in 2009/10 season. The money was paid and other issues resolved as both clubs proceeded with negotiations.  The financial predicament of Hasaacas also lured the management to open up to talks with Medeama as the player’s transfer fee will help the club to defray piled up outstanding salaries.

Korankye had one year remaining on his contract with Hasaacas and his move is seen as a seal of a new cordial sporting relationship between both clubs.  Korankye’s signing will bolster the squad of the Mauve and Yellows in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage and their Premier League resurgence in the second round and he will provide intense competition for first team with Samuel Adade.

His strength, pace, tireless overlapping runs, dribbling and power in his right foot which he uses to score stunning goals from long range free kicks. He has a goal of the season contender for his 40 meter stunner against Techiman City in week two at the Sekondi stadium.

Korankye joined Hasaaacas from division one side, Elmina Sharks in 2013/14 season when the Giants of the West returned to the premier league. In his two and half seasons with Hasmal, Korankye has consistently showcased and proved his quality that has earned him affection and call ups to the home based Black Stars.
