Ghana’s sole representative in the Caf Confederation Cup, Medeama SC, will open their group phase against TP Mazembe at the Stade de Mazembe in Lubumbashi on Sunday.
The Yellow and Mauves are pitted against the Ravens in Group A alongside Young Africans and M.O Bejaia.
New coach Prince Owusu, who replaced stop-gap manager Evans Adotey, has named an 18-man squad which includes two goalkeepers, seven defenders, five midfielders and seven strikers.
Medeama go into Sunday’s encounter on the back of a 2-0 win over Techiman City in the Ghana Premier League’s outstanding game on Monday. Thanks to goals from Abass Mohammed and Kwesi Donsu.
Medeama CEO James Essilfie insists they have rescinded their earlier decision of boycotting the Caf Confederation Cup game due to financial difficulties.
“The team went to Sogakope on Wednesday for preparations so it means we are definitely going to Congo to play Mazembe,” Essilfie told Goal.
“We were fully aware of the financial involvement before we accepted to participate in the competition so we’ve resolved the problems and will manage it in the future,” he added.
