Martin Demichelis Charged by FA in Relation to Betting

Manchester City defender Martin Demichelis has been charged by the Football Association with misconduct amid allegations he broke betting regulations on multiple occasions.

The news was confirmed in a statement on the FA website on Wednesday, in which it’s stated the Argentina international allegedly “committed 12 breaches of FA Rule E8 concerning football matches between 22 January 2016 and 28 January 2016.”

Demichelis has until 5 p.m. on April 5 to respond to the charges against him.

Sports5050 understand that Demichelis is not suspected of match-fixing or gambling on games he played in. But under FA rules players cannot bet on any football.

Demichelis betting thought to include overseas games and was flagged up to FA by betting operator via Gambling Commission.

The defender was signed by City in the summer of 2013, and after a rocky start to life at the club, he gradually established himself as a fan favourite, helping the team to win the Premier League and the League Cup in his debut term.

This season has been a difficult one for the veteran, with a spate of injuries at the back making City’s defence something of a revolving cast. Demichelis received a lot of criticism for his latest outing, when he endured a torrid afternoon against local rivals Manchester United in a 1-0 defeat.

The 35-year-old has also enjoyed success with Bayern Munich, where he won four league titles, and he has represented the national side on 49 occasions.
