Manchester United ‘failed with £88m bid to sign Thomas Muller’

Manchester United failed with a whopping £88million bid to sign Thomas Muller from Bayern Munich, according to the German sports magazine Kicker.

Kicker claims United were keen to spend a world record figure of 120million Euros to land the Germany World Cup winner, but Bayern refused to accept any offer from the English club.

Muller would apparently have been offered 12.5m Euros a year at Old Trafford, but United turned their attentions to Monaco forward Anthony Martial, 19, who arrived from for £58m as the world’s most expensive teenager.

He has started to repay that astonishing figure by emerging from the substitutes bench to score a superb goal in the 3-1 win over Liverpool on Saturday, but he would not be at the club if Bayern coach Pep Guardiola had sanctioned the sale of Muller for such a staggering fee.
