Goalkeepers are often the unsung heroes in football, but that wasn’t the case for DR Congo’s Robert Kidiaba against Cape Verde.
The veteran goalkeeper helped the Leopards play out a goalless draw in their 2015 Africa Cup of Nations Group B match in Ebebiyin on Thursday.
In a match in which the Blue Sharks were certainly the more potent team going forward, Kidiaba put up a solid display to keep a clean sheet.
He particularly shone in the dying minutes of the match, making a crucial double save from a corner kick in the 85th minute to deny both Fernando Varela and Platini in quick succession.
He also made a brave block against substitute Heldon, who looked destined to score his second goal of the tournament after turning inside a defender and letting fly with a left-footed shot in the 88th minute.
Without Kidiaba’s presence, DRC would surely have suffered a defeat against the Islanders.
