Algerian goalkeeper Rais M’bolhi has continued to increase his stature following what was an impressive 2014 FIFA World Cup for the Philadelphia Union gloves man.
M’Bolhi was again in superb form as the Fennec Foxes came from behind to secure a 3-1 win over South Africa in their opening 2015 African Cup of Nations in Mongomo on Monday, and wins the African Football man of the match award.
While the scoreline suggests the North Africans secured a routine win it was anything but that as Bafana Bafana dominated large portions of the encounter.
Thuso Phala opened the scoring and Bafana Bafana should’ve been 2-0 up early in the second-half but Tokelo Rantie failed to convert from the spot as Algeria secured all three points.
M’Bolhi’s heroics though took place in the first stanza with the well travelled shot stopper pulling off a superb save to deny Dean Furman before denying Sibusiso Vilakazi and Andile Jali in quick succession on the cusp of half-time.
These saves proved pivotal in the greater scheme of things as the North Africans moved top of Group C.
