Coach Shakes Mashaba gave the Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo an opportunity to taste international football at the highest level in must win tie against the Black Stars of Ghana, and believe you me, he didn’t disappoint.
Although he conceded twice, he had a wonderful game where he was called into action from as early as the 16th minute. He managed to command his defence and always maintained his cool and calm.
Khuzwayo was the man who separated Ghana from their first goal as he brilliantly, bravely saved Baba Rahman’s shot in the 34th minute. Rahman took a beautiful shot but the keeper positioned himself well and managed to fist the ball away from danger.
One would say the keeper was let down by his defence considering the amount of possession Ghana enjoyed particularly in the Bafana area, however, the speed of Asamoah Gyan and the likes of Andrew Ayew proved to be daunting task for defenders like Erick Mathoho and Rivaldo Coetzee.
The loss against Ghana spelled an instant exit in the continental showpiece for Mashaba’s men, however, Khuzwayo has a bright future and should he be given more game-time, he’ll be the keeper come 2017.
Khuzwayo’s performance in tonight’s game gives him the nod as man of the match and despite his side losing by 2-1.
