Mali and Uganda bow out of AFCON

Mali and Uganda drew1-1 on Wednesday to exit from the ongoing AFCON after both teams had a disappointing Group D campaign,s. Uganda had already been eliminated and Mali needed to win and hope Egypt lost to Ghana to have a chance of sneaking through as  runners-up.

Farouk Miya gave the Cranes of Uganda the lead 70 minutes into the  match, but the rain drenched pitch  made the game really sloopy  and delivered a comical results at times as players from both teams overran a ball that got stuck on the pitch. There wasn’t much scoring chance with Mali captain Yacouba Sylla coming close but his shot was too high.

A goal was correctly disallowed in the 69th minute with 2 players clearly offside.Uganda then almost went ahead when teenager Miya lashed a ball outside the box but couldn’t hit the target.Mali then levelled when Bissouma,s medium range free kick went past a poorly organised Ugandan  defense, which beat goalkeeper Robert Odongkara which virtually ended the match on a level note ,with both teams exiting the competition as Egypt and Ghana seal through to the quarter final from the Group D.

Now Group leaders Egypt will play Morocco in a North African encounter on Sunday, whiles 2nd place Ghana will play Congo that same day.
